Antiques For Your Apartment

As college students, we are always looking for more ways to display our maturity, lack thereof, or our individual style. Regardless, we want our apartment portraying us and the things we enjoy. Well, usually.

If you desire to make a change in your home, applying antiques is super helpful in starting a fresh design and having a form of history mark your walls. Literally.

To learn about what antiques to purchase and where to put them, read below.

Kitchen

The kitchen is known as the heart of your home, or something along those lines. It houses your alcohol, food, and countless hours of time spent behind the stove. Unless you are more of a takeout person because then that is fine too. No judgement.

Antiques look great in the kitchen because hello, dishes. You can have plates, cups, silverware, pots and pans, and of course pitchers. We always need pitchers.

Given we are in college and most likely do not own the house we are staying in, we cannot really paint or redesign the shelving and appliances and whatnot. However, we can place rustic, pastoral designs such as framed pictures, or vintage clocks and salt and pepper shakers. The opportunities are endless.

Living Room

Incorporating antiques into your living area is probably where you will have the most artistic freedom as a designer. So much furniture to choose from. There are couches, tables, a television stand, bookcases, lamps and throws.

You can visit any local pawn shop or antique store and have a field day. The best thing about antiques is that each piece tells its own story. Basically, your clock does not have to match your coasters. Crazy, I know.

There is so much that can fit into your living room that you can even include items that you would not have necessarily thought would make sense, such as wine bottles, decorated letters for the wall, or random birdhouses. Have at it.

Man Cave Space

Okay, so I understand that most of us live in an apartment and therefore do not really have an extra room or space even for a designated man cave. But that is okay, because all this really consists of is a beer pong table and a distinctive cooler.

If you are into sports at all, there are definitely places to find classic pennants, or old merchandise. This could include posters or jerseys and really allow your area to be labeled antique. Especially if you have a few bobbleheads or historical flags.

There are various antique games you can locate, especially neat looking dartboards. There are also options for framed photos, as always. If you have the available space, I would definitely include your favorite movie memorabilia or musical icons.

Bedroom

Antiques are commonly found in your bedroom because that is where you most likely spend a lot of your time. And who does not want their favorite things to surround them?

Your bed frame, end tables, and wardrobe can all properly represent your vintage style. Do not forget your comforter either. Plus, rugs and whatnot are easy to put together.

If you have a reading area, there are great bookcases waiting to be filled with what else, books. You can accompany it with a great arm chair and lamp. Throw in classic décor and you have got yourself a vintage bedroom.

Porch

Yes, antiques do exist outside. And no worries, it will not look like a dumpster or yard sale. You can discover amazing tables and bar stools that can withstand all weather conditions. Plus, you can really play with themes here.

There are antique games that are fun, as well as correlating with your intended design plan, such as Bimini Ring, and Corn Hole. You can really get creative here, guys.

There are amazing lamps and lanterns you can have outside. Plus, there are various decorations to hang on the wall or have standing. Point is, do not forget about your outside space.

Going antique shopping may sound like a tedious, difficult job, but it can be super adventurous and a type of learning experience, if you allow it. You can head to various shops and stores, and really get an insight into the options existing out there.

When decorating your apartment, I am aware that you’re ballin’ on a budget. Yet, that is not an excuse for you to not decorate as you please. Learn to save, plan and negotiate.

There are multiple rooms awaiting your renovations. There is the bedroom, living space, man cave area, porch, and of course the wonderful kitchen. With all of these rooms as options, you always have space for something. Just keep in mind that antiques depict a sense of historic style and that you can never have too many framed photos. I promise you.
